The WellSteps Story

When we created WellSteps, we were both university professors, doing research, teaching students, and consulting with worksites that were trying to help their employees to be healthier.

Together, we spent nearly four decades in academia and we worked with hundreds of companies. We had seen what works, what doesn’t, and what it takes to transform a worksite into a place where employees and their families can be healthy.

We both left academia because we wanted to help change public health and we could see a better way to do it. We now call ourselves "Practitioner scientists" because we still do research and we still teach and we still help worksites... we just don't ever attend faculty meetings!

Bottom line, we think we have created something special and we are thrilled when the published evaluations of our behavior change solutions contribute to the evidence-base that supports this field.

It all started when Steve called Troy and they had a conversation sort of like this.

Steve:
What are you doing next week?
Troy:
Nothing interesting.
Steve:
Can you get to San Diego?
Troy:
Sure. Why?
Steve:
People need help and I think that the two of us can help them. I have some ideas. Oh and also, there is great boogie boarding in San Diego.
Troy:
Boogie boarding? hmmm. Helping people? hmmm. No more faculty meetings? hmmm. I’m there!

And the rest is history. We boogie boarded but most importantly, we built the foundation for our WellSteps solutions. The WellSteps solutions get at the heart of problems we had both been studying our whole careers. Our solutions work because they are simple and yet they have been called revolutionary by friends and colleagues. Please contact either one of us. We would be thrilled to help you.
