To create effective employee wellness campaigns WellSteps uses the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellsteps.com\/images\/stories\/webinars\/changing_behavior.pdf\"><strong>AMSO (Awareness, Motivation, Skills, and Opportunities)<\/strong><\/a> behavior change model. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We changed the &#8220;O&#8221; in AMSO to include more than just opportunities. For us, this part of the model includes policy changes, environmental and social support. Rather than call this Opportunities, we just use the work &#8220;policy&#8221;. It&#8217;s not just about changing the culture and environment, it&#8217;s about altering policies of the worksite, creating social support, and changing the physical environment. <strong>It&#8217;s the most important because it has the largest impact long-term on helping people have healthy behaviors.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Smoking_Policies\"><\/span>Smoking Policies<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Nationally, about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/tobacco\/campaign\/tips\/resources\/data\/cigarette-smoking-in-united-states.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">13% of the population smokes cigarettes<\/a>, but in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tobaccofreekids.org\/problem\/toll-us\/california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">California the smoking rate<\/a> is much lower. Why is this the case? The main reason is because the state of California has implemented a variety of smoking policies, more than any other state. There are few places where a person can smoke in California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You cannot smoke at the beach or in a public park; your car and your own home are about the only places you can legally smoke.
